RED DEER OILFIELD TECHNICAL SOCIETY

The Red Deer OTS is a society who’s members are made up of people who work in the oilfield service, supply, drilling, completion, and production facets of the petroleum industry based in Central Alberta. There are two main functions the OTS sets out to achieve. First, a series of social and sporting events hosted to foster relationships among the people who work in the oilfield in Central Alberta. And second, through participation and generous donations from many of our members, these events are designed to raise money which is in turn donated to many charity organizations in Central Alberta every year. Over the past many years the OTS has made much needed donations to the Red Deer Regional Hospital, Red Deer College, STARS Air Ambulance Service, United Way, Heart and Stroke Foundation, and many more. We also supply three $750 scholarships annually to OTS members or members’ spouses or children attending full time post secondary education programs.

A quick trip through our calendar will highlight the following activities the Red Deer OTS hosts.

The third Thursday in February is our Membership Appreciation and Election Night supper and meeting in Red Deer. Members elected to the OTS executive serve a term of two years. Each year in February approximately half the executives’ terms are complete. An election is held to fill all the positions to maintain our executive number at 12 or 13 seats.

The Monday before the May long weekend is the first night of the OTS Monday Night Golf held at the Sylvan Lake Golf and Country Club. This league is a drop in league designed to make it fit into everyone’s busy schedule. Registration closes at 5:30 with a shotgun start at 6:00 every Monday until late September every Monday throughout the summer except long weekend Mondays. Some prize money is available to win every week and is available thanks to donations from over 50 of our sponsors. To participate, all that’s required is to maintain an active annual membership for $25, pay the $20 registration fee which pays for the year end wrap up banquet for all participants, and pay the weekly green fee of $20. We encourage anyone interested to come out and join the fun.

The third Thursday of May is our annual Spring Break Steak and Lobster Stag hosted at the Westerner Pavilion in Red Deer. Corporate tables are available for a reduced price. Join us for an excellent dinner, a charity sports memorabilia silent auction, and a ton of laughs supplied by comedians from Yuk Yuks.

The fourth Thursday of August is the OTS Cash Scramble golf tournament held at the Innisfail Golf and Country Club. We accept entries from the first 36 paid four man teams. There are three divisions based on total team handicap to ensure competitive flighting (see entry form on Cash Scramble link to clarify team make up requirements). You enter your own team and play that day in a group of eight with another team from your division. An optional “Buy In” increases the amount of cash available to be won that day. You do not have to be a Red Deer OTS member to participate in this event.

The second Saturday in September is our annual OTS Mixed Golf Tournament held at the Sylvan Lake Golf and Country Club. This is an extremely fun mixed best ball format where again two four person teams play together in a group of eight. This day is a great time regardless of anyone’s golf skills. Come out and join us for a fun day with tons of prizes to be won followed by a bbq and dance. Access the entry form and information on the Mixed Golf Tournament link.

Late September is the start of our OTS Curling League held at the Red Deer Curling Club. Games are every Tuesday at 5:00 pm throughout the winter months. You must be an OTS member to participate in this league. Entries are limited to 16 teams. Contact any executive members for more information.

The third Thursday in October is our Texas Hold’M Night supper and meeting held at the Holiday Inn - West in Red Deer. Join in for a great supper, a fun evening of Texas Hold’M and entertainment.

The first Saturday in December is our final event each year. The OTS Christmas party consists of an excellent dinner followed by a dance with live entertainment (see Christmas Party link).
